Maria Luisa R. Candelore, MSc, has joined GCaps as Director for all projects in the Life Sciences sector.
Mari was most recently Director in the External Scientific Partnerships group supporting strategic interests
of JDRF, a non-profit 501(c)(3) formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. In her role, Mari
worked at the research-business interface providing support to the JDRF Research Team in the identification, analysis,
formation and project management of strategic research alliance and partnership collaborations with academics and
the healthcare industry to further the mission of the JDRF in T1D. Among her duties was close work with the Research
Team to evaluate industry proposals for research funding, to help create the business case, and to lead in agreement
negotiations. Specifically, she supported the evaluation of devices for an artificial pancreas project, microbiome,
beta cell regeneration, and repurposing of drugs with potential to impact the lives of people with diabetes.
Mari Candelore came to JDRF from Merck Research Laboratories' External Scientific Affairs Department, where
she engaged in licensing, contract negotiation and alliance management activities. She supported biology and technology
deals from their early stages, clinical development through to commercialization (in both U.S. and developing markets). Biology:

Prior to her licensing, Mari was a "bench scientist" at Merck, working in several therapeutic
areas:
and lastly, in Diabetes, under Dr. Bei Zhang to develop
novel inhibitors of gluconeogenesis. Mari has authored or co-authored more than sixty peer-reviewed
publications and presented her work at major international conferences. She is a graduate of Vassar College
and received her Master's degree in Biology from New York University. Mari is married to GCaps co-Founder
and Managing Partner, Dan Candelore. Together they have a son, Darek, and daughter Nikki, and one granddaughter,
Amelia. |
